Small healthcare research firm increases international drug database
We helped a small healthcare research firm working with a Government body capturing data from migraine sufferers on a national scale.
Patients signing up for the study needed to be able to log all medications in an app to help map trends and identify possible causation.
Patients may have had drugs prescribed and dispensed outside the country of study, but these still needed to be captured.
As the service was patient-facing, clinical data was not required.
We supplied a file containing the Martindale Preparations database. This contained medicines data from 40 countries, covering over 7,500 medications.
The data could be linked via various international codes to their common active ingredients, allowing app users to find and select their medications without entry error, and researchers to interrogate the data for common factors.

Leading clinical software provider improves access to crucial content
We helped a clinical software provider to improve the way in which their users accessed content by preventing inefficiencies in workflow.
Users of the software were frequently navigating out of their internal systems to access content from the BNF and other publications hosted on MedicinesComplete. This process cost time and reduced efficiency.
As the users operated in the clinical setting, up to date clinical content was required.
We were able to provide a file that contains the full clinical content, updated alongside the online version
to ensure currency of information and allow them to host on their own servers.
The data could be fully embedded into their systems in operation across the NHS. This allowed users to remain native within these systems as users could access shortcuts to clinically
relevant information at the most relevant points of care.

Health insurance provider improvesclaims resolution
One of the UK’s largest health insurance providers approached us to help them process a huge number of claims from their partner healthcare providers, including large numbers of medicines dispensed to patients.
We worked with them to develop an API endpoint that included a full set of drugs from the BNF including non-proprietary pricing (BNF Price).
The data contained many common codes (SNOMED CT, dm+d, DOI) to allow them to quickly import and link it with existing systems.
They now use the pricing information derived from the BNF to streamline their processing and resolution of claims with their healthcare providers.
Integration with internal systems increased the automation of processing and allowed for pricing
data to be updated on a much more regular basis, whilst preserving a record of previous prices for long term and complex claims.
